It has been a long-awaited transition of moving the flow of visiting air passengers to the Eastern Sierras down to an entrance point holding a lower elevation, where the weather is more stable and the air field is more accessible.
<a href="https://www.united.com/en/us">United Airlines</a> in conjunction with the <a href="https://www.townofmammothlakes.ca.gov/">Town of Mammoth Lakes</a> & <a href="https://www.monocounty.org/">Mono County tourism</a> proudly wrapped up 2021 with the introduction of commercial flight service into Bishop, California. This rumored air service commenced and the future plans for the Eastern Sierra Regional Airport in <a href="https://bishopvisitor.com/">Bishop, California</a> are big, bold, and on the rise.
Starting in December of 2021 United Airlines offered direct flights to and from <a href="https://www.flydenver.com/">Denver (DEN)</a>, <a href="https://www.flysfo.com/">San Francisco (SFO</a>), & <a href="https://www.flylax.com/">Los Angeles (LAX)</a> International Airports. Extending a seat of enjoyment on the Canadian Regional Jet with choices from first class, premium, economy, & basis economy seating. These flights are scheduled to continue through the end of March 2022. United expects to offer a limited summer flight schedule for 2022 with service to and from San Franciso (SFO) and will pick back up again for the winter service of 2022/2023. Stay tuned and up to date with the latest air schedule at <a href="https://www.united.com/en/us">United.com</a>.
Transportation to and from Bishop/Mammoth Lakes has been provided by several local transportation companies including the very reliable and reputable <a href="https://www.mawshuttle.com/">Mammoth All Weather Shuttle (MAWS)</a>. <a href="https://www.estransit.com/">Eastern Sierra Transit</a> has also been a huge contributor to the success of these new regional flights by committing to safely and reliably transporting visitors to their specific individual destinations throughout Inyo & Mono county.
If you’re a Southern California resident and are still set on flying directly into Mammoth Yosemite Airport to take full advantage of your <a href="https://www.ikonpass.com/">IKON pass</a> then there’s a great new option to arriving via air travel from several Southern California destinations. <a href="https://www.advancedairlines.com/">Advanced Airlines</a> has proudly taken over as the public charter flights, servicing, <a href="https://www.cityofhawthorne.org/departments/public-works/airport">Hawthorne Municipal Airport (HHR)</a>, <a href="https://www.millionair.com/locations/bur/">Burbank (BUR),</a> and <a href="https://www.sandiegocounty.gov/dpw/airports/palomar.html">McClellan-Palomar Airport (CLD)</a>.
The success of these flights, deeply rely on the local support, just as much as the visiting traffic. If you are local to the Eastern Sierra’s and would like to take advantage of the seasonal flight service on both United Airlines and/or Advanced Air you can receive a <a href="https://www.visitmammoth.com/industry/flylocal/">local discount code</a> by inquiring at <a href="https://www.visitmammoth.com/industry/">VisitMammoth.com</a>.
The famous <a href="https://www.nps.gov/jomu/index.htm">John Muir</a> once said, “Going to the mountains is going home” and in a valiant attempt to streamline a reliable air service in the Eastern Sierra, a huge thank you is due to all entities working together to bring the people home!

Mammoth Lakes is known as a huge winter destination for die-hard skiers and snowboarders. However, if you happen to be someone who comes up in the winter with your family and you don’t want to go skiing on the mountain there is an abundancy of other fun activities.
One of my favorite activities is to go cross country skiing which honestly, if you can walk, then you can do it. Many people go up to <a href="https://www.tamaracklodge.com/">Tamarack Lodge</a> at the top of Lake Mary which is also run by <a href="https://www.mammothmountain.com/">Mammoth Mountain</a>. It can be a fun day and daily tickets are inexpensive, starting about $28 plus the equipment rental fee. Grab a map from the hut where you rent gear grab and wander through the trail system. However, if you want to save some money and really have a nice quiet time, head to the Shady Rest near the entrance to town on the free groomed trails. You can rent cross country gear at <a href="https://kittredgesports.com/">Kittridge</a> for about $17 a day, then park near the visitor’s center, or the Shady Rest parking lot. From those points you can access and relatively flat, groomed, cross county trail system. The Shady Rest parking lot is also the launching point for the snowmobilers who use the trails on the opposite side. This entire area is also the best place to walk your dog in the winter or summer which you can do on either of the trail systems. Tip: when it is a complete white-out snowstorm, try, Shady Rest as it can be quiet and stunning. You will be down under the trees which act like a barrier, and it can look like a magical winter wonderland.
Another fun thing to do in the winter is ice skating. Of course, there is the ice-skating rink in town, but have an adventure and head out to one of the lakes to go lake skating. This activity is very weather dependent generally only happens for a month or so depending on the snowfall and temperatures. Make sure to check the <a href="https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=37.6488&lon=-118.9779#.Yh8QnejMK38">weather conditions</a> and bring safety measures. The <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/755914787814022/">Eastern Sierra Ice Skating Facebook page</a> is good for some current information. Over the years this has been my families favorite since we get to try different lakes and there is usually a huge group of people are out having fun. If you just want to sit back and watch then head up to Twin Lakes where you can usually see ice skaters and a pick-up hockey game.
After a hard day on the mountain, or if the cold weather is not your favorite, then grab a towel and a bathing suit and head down to the hot springs near the airport. A few of the most popular are Wild Willy’s, Rock Tub, and Hilltop which you can find online on google maps. If that doesn’t quite interest you, then a day trip down to Bishop to Keogh Hot Springs is a popular destination for locals. It is a natural hot springs pool that is an amazing temperature all year around. Also, Bishop if usually warm enough to enjoy weather in the 70’s during the winter. It is not fancy, but it is nice and relaxing, and the kids love it. There is a snack bar and a large grass area to relax and have a picnic. After that stop in Bishop for a <a href="http://goodearthyogurt.com/">frozen yogurt at The Good Earth</a>.
If you want a fast adventure, then try snowmobiling. Mammoth Mountain has adventure packages, but a good place to go is just north on the 395 to <a href="https://snowmobilemammoth.com/">DJ’s Snowmobiling Adventures</a>. You can’t miss it as it is just on the side of the freeway before the Scenic Loop exit. They provide helmets and offer guided tours or rental packages for single or double snowmobiles. The trails from the rental run from easy to moderate depending how adventurous you wish to be.
In the end, there are a lot of different activities than just skiing and snowboarding in Mammoth Lakes. Try and branch out and find out how much more there is to offer!2022-03-05T17:28:00-07:002022-03-05T17:41:29-07:00Brandee Dell'Aringatag:sierraresortrealestate.com,2012-09-20:19280Mammoth Creek Park's Newest Addition<img src="https://assets.site-static.com/userfiles/332/image/Mammoth_Creek_Park_-_Multi-Use_Facility.jpg" width="397" height="298" alt="Mammoth Creek Park" style="float: left;" /><a href="https://www.visitmammoth.com/">Mammoth Lakes</a> is a playground for most with terrain for all different kinds of activities. No matter what season you choose to visit there will always be a full list of outdoor adventures just waiting to be had. In addition to our beautiful natural-terrain we use as our backyard, the town of mammoth lakes is proudly building a new indoor multi-use and recreation zone facility located just past some of our favorite restaurants on Old Mammoth Road at <a href="https://www.visitmammoth.com/adventure/mammoth-creek-park/">Mammoth Creek Park</a> - West.
This sleek and modern prefabricated tensile sprung facility will span approximately 40,000 square feet and will soon become the home to many indoor events, activities, and future memories. As this will be a year-round facility the anticipated winter activities will give the locals and visitors in Mammoth Lakes a new recreation space for après ski. Just because the <a href="https://www.mammothmountain.com/">ski lifts</a> stop running that doesn’t mean your fun in this winter wonderland has to end.
This new <a href="https://www.townofmammothlakes.ca.gov/773/Multi-Use-Facility">multi-use facility</a> will house an Olympic size ice rink for about half the year and intends to include winter activities including but not limited to: Ice Skating, Figure Skating, Hockey leagues, Broomball, Curling leagues, Birthday Parties & Special Events.
In the summertime and warmer months of the year this <a href="https://www.townofmammothlakes.ca.gov/773/Multi-Use-Facility">multi-use facility</a> will transform into a recreation zone and intends to cover the ice rink with what are commonly known as sport tiles. Some of the summer activities will include but not be limited to Roller Skating, Street Hockey, Small-sided soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Dodgeball, Tailgate games, Skate ramps, Community Events, Birthday Parties & Special Events.
This project has been a long time coming and started back in 2014 with the town staff discussions of improvements to existing multi-use and recreation facilities. After countless meetings, planning, voting, funding, and so much more we find ourselves jumping forward to present day in 2022 with news of construction to be taking place in spring of 2022. You can follow along with the most recent updates and milestone timelines at the <a href="https://www.townofmammothlakes.ca.gov/">Town of Mammoth Lakes website</a>.
The addition to the Mammoth Creek Park will be a very exciting new development and a very big accomplishment for our local community. Mammoth Lakes is notoriously known as a great escape and unbelieve playground for nature enthusiasts and with this new development we can look forward to more fun and exciting times for the <a href="https://nexthomemammoth.com/">future in Mammoth Lakes. </a>

Now that you finally have a vacation property in <a href="https://www.townofmammothlakes.ca.gov/">Mammoth Lakes</a>, do you update it, or leave it in it’s dated condition? If you plan on renting your property on a nightly rental program then updating it will generate more bookings and income than properties that are not updated. Vacationers are tired of paying high prices for a rental that is old, smelly and outdated. An updated property does not need to be entirely remodeled with expensive finishes and furnishings. A remodeled condo just needs to have some of the basics to make it an enjoyable experience for the renters. A few updates can go a long way to enhance the appeal of a property. Updating the flooring, furnishings, paint and appliances can go a long way in changing the look and feel of a property.
The first and easiest is to install <a href="https://mountaincarpetinc.com/">new flooring</a> throughout. Most owners are smartly using the new LVF products which is a <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/369224869430691766/">luxury vinyl flooring</a> that comes in a massive array of wood-like colors and plank sizes. The best part about this flooring is that it is waterproof, and if a water intrusion happens it can be removed and reinstalled. It is also scratch and dent resistant making it a very durable flooring. Another benefit with this flooring is that it can be installed in kitchen and bathrooms making a nice seamless look throughout. Although, it is still ideal to have tile or stone at the front door, or any door leading to the exterior the LVF can be used if needed.
The next item which can change the overall appearance of a property is fresh paint. Fresh paint in combination with the flooring will drastically change the look and feel of a place. A coat of fresh paint can brighten, or darken an interior giving it a cozy, or modern feel.
Another update I recommend is to make sure the furnishings are up to par. You might only need a few things to update the look, or you might need all new furnishings. Having updated furnishings will bring it into the current era and set it apart from the outdated rentals. One of the most important furnishings items to update is the bedroom mattresses. Make sure the beds are comfortable as it is the number one complaint in reviews because a good night sleep is important to everyone. Also, updating the sofa to a pull-out sofa bed is good as it can increase the sleeping capacity. The more a property can sleep, the more income it can generate. Along with the other basic furnishings, don’t forget to update any televisions and other electronics.
The final touch would be to have all the little items throughout to make your property turn-key and comfortable. These items might include throw blankets, games for kids, and all of the necessary kitchen and bathroom items. You could stay in the most remodeled property ever, but your vacation would not be enjoyable if it is missing the key elements one would need to cook, or relax by the fire.
Lastly, updating the kitchen appliances can update a kitchen without doing a full-blown kitchen remodel. You might notice I did not say it is necessary to remodel the entire kitchens and bathrooms. Of course, it would be ideal if you had the money and time to remodel the entire property, but we all know that can be costly, stressful, and hard to manage from afar. If there are some elements you can improve easily then go for it, but the basic items above will improve the property with the least amount of hassle.
Once you implement some or all of these recommendations you should be ready to rent out more often and compete with the best of listings. It will also allow you to further enjoy your own property when you come to stay!2021-12-31T17:13:00-07:002021-12-31T17:26:18-07:00Brandee Dell'Aringatag:sierraresortrealestate.com,2012-09-20:136322018 Mammoth Mountain Pond Skim

Mammoth Lakes is a multi-season area where you can enjoy a full year of outdoor activities
<img src="https://assets.site-static.com/userfiles/332/image/Twin_Lakes.jpg" width="540" height="960" />
Here are some great places to go for your <a href="http://www.SierraResortRealEstate.com">hiking, biking, and water skiing</a> pleasures during the summer.
Hiking:
There are many hiking trails into the Inyo National Forest with magnificent views. On these trails, you may discover mountain top views, crystal blue lakes, babbling brooks and streams, and quiet areas to relax. In the Sierras, there are day hikes, casual strolls to strenuous elevation changing hikes. You can also do overnight hikes but these require special permits, which have quotas for overnighters, so you need to get there early to get your permit.
Mammoth Lakes’ area provides more than seventy trails throughout the area, from strolling to challenging hikes. Here are just a few of the many hikes from easy to moderate:
Easy:
Lakes Basin Area: Off Lake Mary Road provides shorter trails near Lake George. Panorama Dome: The dome is an easy ½-mile hike that begins near the bridge of Twin Lakes. The trailhead is on Lake Mary Road past the turnoff to Twin Lakes. Rock Creek: Most of the trail is near a cold-water creek. Aspens, willows, and other foliage during an early October hike will show you spectacular colors of yellows, oranges, and reds. Devils Postpile National Monument (nps.gov/depo): A 0.4-mile hike leads Devils Postpile a unique geologic feature protected by the National Park Service. There are about eight miles of trails within the park. Make sure to bring plenty of water in the summer months.
Moderate:
Shadow Lake and Lake Ediza: A three and a half to six mile: Take the turnoff to Agnew Meadows campground and from the trailhead parking lot, follow the signs for "Shadow Lake/River Trail.” You will want to start early because of the midday sun along the exposed switchbacks. Owens River Gorge: This area is a great place for watching the rock-climbing crowd. You can access the trails from Highway 395, ten miles north of Bishop at the Owens Gorge Pipeline Road. There is also great fishing and wildlife viewing here as well. Bottomless Pit (What a name!): This 0.75-mile hike to the viewpoint is short and steep, which is why this is a moderate hike. You can access the trail from Tamarack; walk through the campground, over the bridge, following the road until you see the trailhead sign.
Mountain Biking
There are more trails available as soon as the snow melts then there is time to enjoy before the next snow falls. One of the best areas to bike is at the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park. The second best place is Inyo National Forest. These two areas offer you single track trails and dirt roads for excellent riding experiences.
Water Skiing
Water-skiing and wake boarding remain favorite activities in Mammoth Lakes. You can water ski in crystal-clear lakes such as Topaz, Klondike, and Grant all open to powerboats and water-crafts.
Here are some lakes that allow water skiing:
Klondike Lake is only three miles north of Big Pine and this small lake is a popular local spot for swimming, water-skiing, sailing and windsurfing. Klondike Lake is reached by a dirt road off US 395 0.7 mi north of Reynolds Rd. (there is no roadside sign; there is a left-hand turn pocket for those coming from the north).
Topaz Lake: straddles the California-Nevada state line. Topaz is popular with boaters and water skiers who generally keep their distance from the anglers.
Grant Lake: is the largest of the lakes. After 10:00 am, speedy watercraft may take to the lake, and sports such as water-skiing, wake boarding, and jet skiing may be enjoyed. Most of the shoreline is accessible to the public by unpaved roads that connect to both California Route 158 and U.S. 395.
There are so many places to go and visit while being outdoors enjoying hiking, biking, and water skiing. However, while Mammoth has gained increasing popularity in recent years as a summer vacation destination, due to the gorgeous scenery, the amazing hiking, and the world class level mountain bike trails, Mammoth is still most notoriously known as arguably the best skiing location and all around winter destination in California.
If you have never visited Mammoth, you may be wondering what makes this particular vacation destination so special; in short, Mammoth mountain is the perfect, and perhaps the most beautiful, ski destination. At an elevation of over 11,000 feet, Mammoth Mountain is the highest destination for skiing and snowboarding in California. What makes this location particularly unique, and what leads to its popularity among skiers and snowboarders worldwide is its: 3,100-foot vertical skiing range, its 3,500 skiable acres, and the fact that its average winter season lasts from November until June.
Another aspect of Mammoth Mountain that makes it such a popular winter destination is the wide variety of activities that are available for those who are not interesting in skiing or snowboarding. Alternative winter activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and tubing as well as various other snow centric activities.
Then of course, no skiing destination is complete without nightlife activities, which Mammoth has many options for. Whether you want to go for a fun beer tasting at the Mammoth Brewing Company’s tasting room, or if you are in the mood for a fine dining option such as Petra’s Wine Bar and Bistro, there are options for every mood and style; and of course, there are many more dining options.
What makes Mammoth Mountain one of the greatest skiing destinations on the west coast is that it provides a wide range of activities that will suit the needs of any type of visitor who chooses to take a vacation there. If so, you may want to spend the day in Mammoth Lakes.

The Eastern Sierra Mountains are home to a wonderful outdoor ice skating rink~
You may want to think about starting your family’s outing at Toomey’s Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Located in the village on Minaret Road, it opens daily at 7 a.m. They serve such great dishes as coconut mascarpone pancakes, egg sandwiches, fruit laden oatmeal and island-style French toast. The beverages are also flavorful and hot.
From there, bundle up and head on over to the outdoor Mammoth Ice Rink. Located on Sierra Park Road, it typically opens during the winter months at 9 a.m. and closes in the late evening. However, public skating hours do vary based on the weather and special events. So it’s best to call ahead.
Once there, you’ll be able to rent pairs of skates or have the rink’s crew sharpen your own for a modest fee. Ice skating lessons and light refreshments are available onsite too. Because it is such a well-maintained ice skating rink, we’d suggest planning on spending several hours enjoying the facilities with your family.
When you are finished ice skating, consider stopping by the Mammoth Lakes Library. It’s located next door and tends to open around 10 a.m. Special programs are offered throughout the year. So depending on the schedule, you may get to enjoy one while you are there.
In addition, you could check-out a few ice skating books to read with the kids. Books that the kids may enjoy are Andrew Breakspeare’s Skating with Bears and Rachel Isadora’s Sophie Skates. Both are geared towards young children and listed in the Mono County Free Library’s card catalog.
After the library, you may want to cap off the day with an early dinner at one of the area’s restaurants or a walk through the nearby Mammoth Ski Museum. It is located on College Parkway.

Yes, we are talking about June Mountain. Located in June Lake, it is 500+ acres of pure skiing nirvana.
<img src="https://assets.site-static.com/userfiles/332/image/June_Lake_2013.jpg" width="448" height="299" />
Word has it that the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/JuneMountain">mountain</a> will reopen to visitors on December 13th.
With that said, consider starting your day at 8 a.m. with a chair lift ride to the June Meadows Chalet. It’s a great place to survey the breath-taking mountain views over hot coffee and palate pleasing muffins. It will also give you time to come up with a game plan.
The mountain itself features a 10,090 foot summit elevation, a vertical rise of 2,590 feet and 35 named trails to choose from. If you have skiing skills on par with Lindsey Vonn and Bode Miller, the expert trails may prove to be your best bet. They include Gulf Canyon and the Powder Chute. Of course not all of the trails are geared towards experienced skiers. There are beginner and intermediate tracks too.
There is also an award-winning terrain park on offer. You may have read about the park several times in <a href="http://snowboarding.transworld.net/2012-transworld-snowboarding-resort-poll/">TransWorld Snowboarding</a> magazine. In 2012, it was listed in three of the magazine’s Top 10 categories (resorts, parks and pipes). If you do decide to head towards the terrain park first, be sure to hit the super pipe. It will have you feeling like a young Travis Rice, Shaun White or Kelly Clark in no time.
Once you’ve had your fill of super pipes and powder, contemplate capping off your day with dinner. There are several places to dine in the area. One of them is the Double Eagle Resort and Spa. They frequently serve such flavorful delights as lamb chop lollipops, trout piccatta, filet mignon and veal osso bucco.
If you want lighter fare and family fun, try The Tiger Bar & Café instead. They feature a children’s menu and onsite entertainment. Down home, scrumptious foods on offer include country-fried chicken, meatloaf, pork chops, top sirloin and the renowned Tiger Burger.

As one of the largest ski resorts in California, <a href="http://www.SierraResortRealEstate.com" title="Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort">Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort</a> spans more than 3,500 acres of territory near the Inyo National Forest.
Located along the northern side of Mammoth Mountain in the Sierra Mountain range, this ski resort is less than an hour’s drive from Yosemite National Park. Although it is well known for skiing and snowboarding, there are actually a host of activities available that draw visitors in year round.
During the summer, the Adventure Center provides activities including rock climbing, a bungee trampoline and zip line. Mountain biking is also popular, and the resort offers a practice loop and skills development area for riders so that they can perfect their technique.
The Scenic Star Golf Course also provides spectacular views from each one of its 18 holes. Situated 8,000 feet above sea level, this course provides intriguing play for athletes of all skill levels. Special training programs are available for children, as season passes can be purchased at the resort as well.
That’ s not all you can enjoy during the summer, as horseback riding, fishing and hiking are all popular activities here as well. After taking in some strenuous outdoor recreation, kick back and enjoy a hearty meal at one of the many restaurants here before heading to back home for a restful night’s sleep.
During the winter, you can take in activities ranging from snowmobiling, snow tubing, cross-45 country skiing and snowboarding. The resort receives as much as 400 inches of snowfall each year, making it ideal for visiting anywhere from November to June. It is also home to a super duper pipe, a 22-foot high, 550-foot long stunt tube that attracts professional athletes for training purposes. There are only a handful of these stunt pipes found anywhere in the world.
You don't have to forego skiing or snowboarding due to lack of experience. Mammoth Mountain has more than 400 seasonal instructors that can provide you with private lessons that are tailored for your exact skill level. These lessons can be taken with up to five friends who share your same level of expertise, and are scheduled every hour throughout the day for your convenience. They can be as long or short as you'd like, and range from one to six hours in duration.
A scenic gondola ride is also especially breathtaking in winter. Climb aboard a lift and ascend to the summit of Mammoth Mountain, which is a whopping 11,053 feet above sea level. Here you’ll find the Sierra Interpretive Center, where you can learn about the mountain’s history and geology and take some breathtaking photographs. Grab a bite to eat at the Top of the Sierra Market, where you’ll enjoy everything from fresh salads to hearty soups.

The rugged little town of <a href="http://www.SierraResortRealEstate.com" title="Bishop, CA">Bishop, CA</a> is centrally located in the Owens Valley, within a couple of hours of each of them. If that isn't enough to grab your interest in this rather hidden corner of North America, consider the multitude of activities this valley has to offer.<img src="https://assets.site-static.com/userfiles/332/image/Bishop_outdoor_living.jpg" width="960" height="717" />
Bishop, nestled between the Sierra Nevada mountains to the west and the White Mountains to the east, was named for one of it's first settlers, Samuel A. Bishop. During the 1860's, when gold mining camps in the area began to require large amounts of beef, Samuel Addison realized that the Owens Valley was a great area for cattle raising. It also had the great benefit of not having to drive herds of cattle across the mountains from the San Joaquin Valley to serve the miners. The travels of many of the west's most well-known explorers passed through Bishop, including Jedediah Smith, John C. Fremont, and Kit Carson.
In the early 1900's, much of the ranch land was purchased for water rights and the water from the Owens Valley was diverted to the growing city of Los Angeles via the Los Angeles Aquaduct. Today this city-owned land is used for many types of recreation including camping, hiking, hunting and fishing in the Owens River.
While Bishop has had it's ups and downs, today it is the center of outdoor recreation including fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, mountain climbing, birdwatching, rock hounding and so much more. It's central location makes it accessible from north or south along good roads. With hotels, restaurants and the Eastern Sierra Regional Airport, it's easy to to see why Bishop is a great place to come home to.
Whether you're looking for a year-round home, or a second home vacation paradise, Bishop may be just the place you had in mind. <a href="http://www.SierraResortRealEstate.com" title="contact us">Contact us</a> at (855) GO-MAGGIE or check out Maggie Larson at Sierra Resort Real Estate on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Maggie-Larson-Sierra-Resort-Real-Estate-Mammoth-Lakes-CA/172331229521329" title="Facebook">Facebook</a>. If you have a chance to come and explore this area, here are some suggestions for adventure to get you started.
HIKING
<a href="http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/inyo/recreation/wintersports/recarea/?recid=70802&actid=92">Minaret Vista Trail</a>
From the Mammoth Mountain Inn, this trail is a 3 mile round-trip, moderate hike, through the pine forest and across a ridge covered with volcanic pumice stone. Your descent into the Reds Meadow Valley offers some of the most incredible scenery in the whole area. On this hike you will be treated to views of the granite spires of the Minarets and Mt. Banner, which is located in the Ansel Adams Wilderness. Access in the winter requires a snowmobile or snowshoes.
<a href="http://www.tripadvisor.com/Guide-g60791-i9065-Mammoth_Lakes_California.html">Twin Lakes Trail</a>
For a more challenging hike, this trail is 5 miles long, one way, so you can consider this a day hike. You can take a stroll along the forested trail and enjoy views of the scenic Lakes Basin. You will also see the natural arch formation at the "Bottomless Pit" at Twin Lakes. Be sure to take photographs of the spectacular view at the Seven Lakes lookout point.
BIKING
<a href="http://www.trails.com/tcatalog_trail.aspx?trailid=BGS048-300">Horseshoe Lake Loop</a>
An easy family-friendly ride of about 2 miles, through giant pine trees and across 7 different bridges over babbling creeks. The birdsong will delight your senses as well. This is a great ride for wildlife watchers so bring your binoculars and camera.
<a href="http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2012/sep/17/travel-mammoth-lakes-basin-ca-bike-path/">Lakes Basin Path</a>
For a more challenging ride, take the trail 5 miles up to the Lakes Basin and along the shores of Lake Mary, Lake Mamie and the TwinLakes. The trail offers great views of the scenic Sherwin Range. Because it is a steady climb up, fitness is important and so are good brakes for the return trip.
SKIING

Welcome to trout <a title="blocked::http://www.sierraresortrealestate.com/
Fishing" href="http://www.sierraresortrealestate.com/">fishing</a> at it's finest! Whether you love the physicality of fly fishing or the absolute laziness of shore fishing with a bobber and Power Bait, Inyo County offers many beautiful mountain lakes and streams that will please every member of your family. Located on the east side of the Sierra's, the county line even encompasses Mt. Whitney, the highest mountain in the nation at almost 14,500 feet. These waters are the epitome of high-altitude fishing.
This area gets some very heavy snowfalls, the Mammoth Ranger Station lists the average annual snowfall at just about 200 inches. This snowmelt each year is what feeds the streams and rivers with some of the purest water you can fish. There are so many streams and lakes to choose from and they all promise the possibility of landing a trophy trout.
<a title="blocked::http://www.placekeeper.com/California/Chickenfoot_Lake-258270.html" href="http://www.placekeeper.com/California/Chickenfoot_Lake-258270.html">Chickenfoot Lake</a>
This is a great lake to make camp because there are so many other lakes within a close area that you can also explore. The area is known as the Little Lakes Valley and includes Long Lake, Heart Lake and <a title="blocked::http://www.placekeeper.com/California/Box_Lake-257413.html" href="http://www.placekeeper.com/California/Box_Lake-257413.html">Box Lake</a>. There are even a few nameless lakes to be found off trail but pay close attention to the signage as the Parks Department often works reclaiming habitat in this area. At Chickenfoot Lake you can fish from over a mile of shoreline for Brook or Rainbow Trout.
<a title="blocked::http://www.americansouthwest.net/california/big-pine-lakes/" href="http://www.americansouthwest.net/california/big-pine-lakes/">Big Pine Lakes</a>
If trout fishing surrounded by the most spectacular scenery is how you would like to spend your day, then head over to these lakes located east of Kings Canyon National Park and southwest of Bishop. This is a day hike and anglers often hit the trail early and fish a few of the lakes before returning to the trailhead as the sun sets. Of course, for the ultimate experience hire a local guide to transport all your gear to a base camp for a few days.

This is a great area for families with children, especially those enjoying their first fishing experience. The hike in is only a couple of miles and it is often fairly deserted. You will find hungry trout that are just the right size for a pan fry by the lake. The scenery is dominated by the 12,000 foot Chocolate Peak in the distance. Don't forget to check out South Lake and Hurd Lake which are located close by and also promise great trout fishing.

2012-12-04T10:52:00-07:002013-05-15T12:02:23-07:00Maggie Larsontag:sierraresortrealestate.com,2012-09-20:2181Raising Kids in the Eastern SierraBishop California is a picturesque town nestled at the base of the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The surrounding area has a population of approximately 11,000 residents and sits at an elevation of 4,147 feet. Bishop is a popular destination point for recreational enthusiasts including, rock climbers, hikers, skiers, hunter, fisherman, landscape photographers, OHV riders and rock hounds. With some of the world’s most scenic views bishop has easy access to Mt. Whitney, Death Valley, Yosemite and Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort.
With so much to do on any given day it is truly a blessing to be surrounding by God’s most beautiful creations. Depending on the ages of your children there are so many different choices available to you. Whether you like hiking, biking, skiing or fishing the Eastern Sierra has something to offer to all ages.
Imagine having the availability at any given time to jump in your car after school on a Friday, drive only minutes to evergreen forests, hike in majestic mountains, and fish in a variety of local lakes or sit in a natural hot spring with the joys of your life.
Keough’s Hot Springs is one of my favorite destinations after a long hard work week. This magnificent gem was established in 1919 and is a one of a kind experience as the largest natural hot springs pool in the Eastern Sierra.
For the more adventurous type Mount Whitney is just minutes away. Mount Whitney is the highest mountain in the contiguous United States or the lower 48 states. The only American mountains higher than Whitney are in Alaska, which has seven higher peaks including Denali. Mount Whitney is the second highest ultra-prominent peak in the lower 48 U.S. states with 10,071 feet of prominence and the 81st most prominent peak in the world. The 10.7-mile Mount Whitney Trail, 22 miles round-trip, is the most popular route to the summit. It gains 6,100 feet (1,900 meters) from the trailhead at Whitney Portal 13 miles west of the town of Lone Pine.
I have mentioned some world renowned destinations however; the truth of the matter is I personally fell in love with the community of Bishop. The innumerable number of quality relationships formed in this little town is astonishing whether you are adult or children forming relationship in elementary and high school. Every relationship has its own significance. Quality time with your children is so important and living in the Eastern Sierra just makes that more enjoyable. Let's face it, increased finances enable us to do more things and enjoy things that we otherwise would not be able to afford. What a blessing however, the Eastern Sierra is free and your time and love is always available to give freely.2011-12-05T13:00:00-07:002013-05-15T12:03:15-07:00Benjamin Peskoetag:sierraresortrealestate.com,2012-09-20:2182A Mother's Experience with Fall Colors in the Eastern SierraLiving in the Eastern Sierra. Autumn always beckons me to load up my children and head up the endless highway to see what little treasures are reserved for us this time of year in the beautiful Eastern Sierra. Each year my children complain, 'Mom do we have to do this again?' Of course the answer is always the same. 'Yes' we do. Unfortunately, with our busy schedules it isn’t that easy to coordinate all five children anymore at any one given time especially for something as trivial as 'Mom’s yearly family photo session.' It's my favorite season when the warm air becomes cool and crisp with the leaves turning into canvases of yellow, orange, red and rust. Autumn, with all its beauty, calls us to enjoy the great outdoors and is the perfect setting for a beautiful family photo and Christmas card.
We almost missed the colors that beautiful afternoon with Homecoming setup in the morning and a two game soccer tournament in the afternoon. Somehow, we managed to load it up and head out for Mom’s yearly photo shoot by 4:00p.m. With the kids in tow, lip gloss in pocket, and our dog jumping for joy to be able to go for a car ride we were ready and on the road.
The colors were fading fast. The wind and cold snap pretty much denuded the trees. There were still spots of color in the canyons but the winds had taken their toll. Upper Rock creek was basically gone. There were a couple of good stands below East fork but the road was covered with leaves. Within minutes we had arrived at the perfect spot.
Now I would recommend a strategically planned photo session but unfortunately our busy lives don’t warrant such a perfectly orchestrated event. Nonetheless, we did find our magical spot hence I did get my favorite photo of the year minus my eldest son. I will try again next year but to me this is a priceless photo of my beautiful children in the fall of 2011. Not too bad for a mother who is a Realtor with a camera that fits in my back pocket next to my lip gloss. For amazing professional photos I highly recommend John Gable photography at <a target="_blank" href="http://www.johngablephotography.com">www.JohnGablePhotography.com</a>
